The is the first Pop Art tableau I made. I am a long distance runner. I often see cans by the roadside. One day while running and seeing all the squashed drink cans beside the road, I thought, "we're covering this country in trash." At the time, my daughter was very young. She ate on a plastic placemat that had a geopolitical map of the US. One step later I related the colors of the cans on the roadside to the colors of the states in her placemat. I thought, "hey, I could make a geopolitical map of the US, using the cans I find as the colors, to show how we're covering the country in trash." It took seven years of running to collect the cans for "America the Beautiful."
